Technical Secretary, Txiki Begiristain, has confirmed that Luis Garc韆 will become a Liverpool player in the next few hours although "there are still two issues to resolve".
"This Friday morning the transfer of the Barcelona forward could be sealed. The agreement between the clubs is almost done: Liverpool will pay his buy-out clause (9 million euros) and Barca will help make the process straightforward" stated Begiristain. The Club had wanted the player to stay but, "not accepting the offer would have involved renegotiating the player's contract. We did not know if Luis Garc韆 would perform at the same level this season that he did in the last one".
Changes to the squad
The loss of Luis Garc韆 should not be too hard to compensate given that "in the squad we have lots of options, like Eto'o, Larsson and Saviola, that have the same high levels of performance".
First refusal
FC Barcelona will not have an option to buy the player back but did keep "the right of first refusal" should the player return to the Spanish League. "I congratulate him because he is going to sign for a great club and he will have a big contract", concluded Begiristain.
R黶t?next?
In reference to the possible loan deal of R黶t?Re鏱er to Fenerbah鏴, Begiristain explained: "it looks good and it could be sorted out in a few days". The Club wish to keep the option to recall the Turkish keeper, "as soon as he obtains his EU Citizenship". At the same time, Txiki recognised that: "We have the position well covered in Albert Jorquera and Rub閚 who will be fighting for a first-team place with V韈tor Vald閟." With regard to the nationalisation of Sylvinho and Edmilson, he remained optimistic: "We have a deadline and I'm sure the two will have their papers by then."
